Obituary of Laura Lee Hoffmeyer

Laura Lee Hoffmeyer, formerly of Nevada City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at her residence, Westmont of Brentwood. She was 85.

Laura was born in Suisun City, California but moved at a very young age to San Bruno, San Mateo County, where she attended Edgemont Elementary and Burlingame High School. Laura took one of the first commercial computer courses at the local community college and excelled in the business application of this very new technology. She worked for Stauffer Chemical as a supervisor for 30 years. Laura married Frederick Albert Hoffmeyer and was blessed with two children, Blaine and Sherrie.

Laura was from childhood an extraordinary reader, setting records as a book borrower at the San Bruno Public Library. She carried that passion for books into adulthood, developing an excellent library of her own. She read anything and everything. She always had a book in her hands, and she bought them by the yard. Laura has left this world for a better place, which her loving family believes will also have endless bookcases.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Downie; her sister Barbara; brothers Ernest and Jimmy; five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Laura was preceded in death by her son, Blaine Hoffmeyer, and her longtime companion, Thomas McDonald.

A private memorial will be held by family at Sierra Memorial Lawn, Nevada City, California.
