Obituary of Kristine Ann (Digerud) Qualls

Kristine Ann (Digerud) Qualls went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 28, 2015. She valiantly fought a very aggressive form of lung cancer and lost that battle with her family by her side. Kristine was born to Einar and Ruth Digerud at Highlands General Hospital in Auburn, California on May 29, 1943, but lived her early years in Grass Valley. She attended school at Hennessy and Nevada Union High, graduating with the class of 1961.

While a freshman at Nevada Union, she met the love of her life John Qualls. They were married in her senior year against well intentioned advice that she was too young and it would never last. It did last 55 years and would have lasted longer except for her death. Kristine won the Maid of Nevada County contest in 1960 and competed in the Maid of California contest that same year. John and Kristine had four wonderful children, son Scott (Lisa), daughters Wendi (Tim), Julieanne (Josh), and Lindsay (Matt). They also raised Kristine’s brother, Arne from 10 years old to adulthood. They have six grand children: Zachary and Lauren Lella, Katie and AJ Qualls, Timmy Metzger, and Lilly Healing.

Kristine followed John as his Caltrans career took them to Auburn (3 yrs), Placerville (7 yrs), Kyburz (3 yrs), So. Lake Tahoe (7 yrs), and back to Auburn for 29 yrs. Kristine worked as a school volunteer in Kyburz and So. Lake Tahoe and then worked as an office manager in various Doctor’s practices. She then established her own successful business as a medical biller, which she did up until her death.

Kristine was a wonderful wife and mother, a dear friend to many, and a cherished grandmother. She loved her church life and the many friends she had there. She loved learning about her God. She loved her work at all times and has many friends from that phase of her life. Kristine loved family trips to Tahoe, quilting, swimming classes, and women’s Bible studies. She loved her family and was a great hostess for family get-togethers. We love you Kristine, Mom, Gramma, Gramma Q, and can’t wait to see you again. Kristine was preceded in death by her father and mother, and is survived by her loving husband John, all of her children and grandchildren, and her brother Arne.

The family was especially appreciative of Sivakumar Reddy, MD, Adarsh Bhat, MD, Earnest Manjooran, MD, Jakkidi Reddy, MD, and the nursing staff at Sutter Roseville Hospital for their great care of Kristine. The Memorial Service will be held at Bell Road Baptist Church, 707 Bell Road in Auburn on Sunday, October 18, 2015, at 2 p.m. with Pastor D. Wayne Patton officiating.
