Obituary of James Russell Jackson
James Russell Jackson was 94 years old when he was called to rest with Jesus on May 25, 2019.
Jim a husband, father, grandfather, business owner, fisherman, sailor and golfer was born on February 7, 1925 to George and Verena Jackson. He was born in Dover Ohio. He was first married to Ruth Ann Williamson on January 31, 1959. They lived in Westlake Ohio with daughter Jennifer Lynn born August 25,1961 in the house that Jim and his father George built together.
Jim was then married to his wife Janet for 54 years and is father of Judi Jackson Williams, James Jackson Jr. and Jeff Jackson. Grandfather of: Jeanee , Julianne, August, Tatum, Tyler, Tessa, Benjamin, Quin and Elleigh.
Jim was the owner of Merchants Refrigeration in Lorain Ohio. Jim enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie from his beach and Boston whaler where perch and walleye were often the catch of the day. His love for Lake Erie began early in life and was evident by his membership with the
Cleveland yacht club, where he sailed a 21 foot Star boat out of Rocky River Ohio. Jim was also the proud captain of a 17 foot Mark I class rebel sailboat that was beached at his lake front home in Vermilion Ohio.
Jim’s other great past time was golf. He was a member of the Oberlin golf club for 67 years and was active in the expansion of the course to what it is today. Jim and Janet moved to Sun City West Arizona in 2004 to enjoy their retirement and lots of golf.
Jim was also an active sponsor for the Lorain alcoholic anonymous rehabilitation center, where he worked with many young men to encourage a life of sobriety, free from addiction as he had found.
Jim lived a rich and full life, filled with many blessings in his family and career.
In his last few years Jim’s faith grew deeper and he shared often what God meant to him with those he met. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and friends. “Someone else is steering the boat.” Quote by Jim Jackson.
Jim was preceded in death by his sister Rosemary Jackson Larson,& his first wife Ruth Ann Jackson, mother of Jennifer Lynn Jackson Gonet.
