Obituary of James F. Helzer

James Helzer

James F. Helzer passed away under the care of Hospice on Nov. 9, 2015, in Grass Valley, after a short battle with cancer.

He was born March 22, 1938, in San Jose, Calif. Jim served in the Marines from 1956 to 1962 and worked for the CHP from 1966 until his retirement in 1993.

Jim had a passion for golf, was an active member of the Nevada County Country Club, and for the last 16 years had the pleasure of playing golf throughout the winter as he traveled with his wife, Darlene, to El Centro, California.

Jim enjoyed woodworking and made many pieces of furniture for family and friends.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Darlene; son John (Nancy) and granddaughter Addison. He was beloved stepfather to Rhonda (Kraig) Fisher and Brad (Karen) Butler, and step-grandchildren, Karley Butler and Kelli, Katie and Nicholas Fisher. Jim also leaves behind many cherished golfing friends.

Friends are invited to join the family in a celebration of life to be held 11 a.m. Dec. 5 at Crosspoint Community Church, 1577 Guerneville Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95403.
