Obituary of Irene Selvester
Irene Josephine Selvester died Oct. 12, 2014.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 23 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 235 Chapel St, Grass Valley, Calif.
Irene Josephine Selvester was born April 9, 1919, in Braddock, N. D., to Michael and Katherine (Eilen) Feyereisen. She was ninth in a family of eleven children.
Irene graduated from Braddock High School in 1937; she attended Valley City State Teachers College for two years and taught school for two years before moving to Vancouver, Wash., and later to San Francisco. In Vancouver she worked in the accounting office of Vancouver Army barracks; in San Francisco, she was employed as a senior clerk in the accounting offices of California State Department of Public Health and Utilities.
Irene married Leslie Selvester Jr. on Oct. 21, 1950, in San Francisco.
They moved to Grass Valley in 1953 where they owned and operated a dental laboratory for 23 years.
Mrs. Selvester was a member and past president of Young Ladies Institute, and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, a past president of Thrift Shop-Cancer Aid where she worked as a volunteer for 15 years.
Irene spent many hours in genealogical research of Luxembourg ancestors which information she shared with 240 other descendants of her parents, and she enjoyed playing bridge. She moved to Newcastle, Calif., in 2009, where she lived the last years of her life with her granddaughter Josephine; grandson-in-law John Senuca and their three children.
She is survived by her son Thomas Selvester of Vernal, Utah; daughter Karen Selvester of Meadow Vista, Calif.; former daughter-in-law Janice McRoberts of Sparks, Nev.; her granddaughter Monica Conway and her husband Douglas Conway of North Highlands, Calif.; granddaughter Josephine Senuca and her husband John Senuca of Newcastle, Calif.; grandson Wayne Selvester and his wife Melanie of Fernley, Nev.; grandson Rick Selvester of Lacy, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Ethel Selvester of Santa Monica, Calif., Mildred Ivanovich of Sacramento, Calif.; Francis Selvester of Auburn, Calif.; 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leslie Selvester on Aug. 25, 2006; brothers, Adolph Feyereisen, Ervin Feyereisen, Arthur Feyereisen; sisters, Louise Baker, Ida Henry, Mary Walerious, Florence Mattern, Esther Henry, Beatrice Driscoll, Isabelle Tour.
Irene was a wonderful lady who was loved greatly, and will be missed dearly.
Arrangements are under the care of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
