Obituary of Gary Samuel Mitchell

Gary Samuel Mitchell passed away May 14, 2016 in Grass Valley, CA. He was 63.

He was born July 19, 1952 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley, CA to parents Glen and Nelda. Gary was born and raised in Grass Valley; he attended Hennessy Elementary School, Empire Jr. High School and Nevada Union H.S. After attending Sierra College and graduating from U.C. Riverside, he taught at Yuba City High School and also became a general contractor. His most recent honor was being accepted into the N.U. Athletic Hall of Fame on April 2, 2016. Gary owned Gary Mitchell Construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf.

Gary is survived by his wife Cherece Mitchell; son Glen (Heidi) Mitchell; daughters, Kelilu (Ken) Mitchell-Kirby, Morgan Mitchell, Taylor Mitchell; siblings, Lennie Mitchell, Terry Mitchell Ferguson, Dolli Honey, Rick Honey; ex-wife Patricia Mitchell; grandchildren, Gavin, Coleman, Tyler, Sequoia, Kingdon and Caydence.

He was preceded in death by father, mother and grandparents.

Gary was so appreciative of his friends and family who supported him through his trials and tribulations. Please join in his Celebration of Life (potluck) at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 5 at The Schrammsberg Estate, 242 Gold Flat Road, Nevada City, CA.

Memorial Contributions may be sent to Hospice of the Foothills, Cancer Aid Thrift or Freed.

Arrangements are under the care of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
