Obituary of Frances Gates
A beloved native of our community, Frances Gates, passed away on May 19, 2016 at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. She was 87.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 4 with a reception to follow from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Ready Springs School, 10862 Spenceville Road, Penn Valley, CA.
Frances was born Frances Lorraine Personeni on Aug. 16, 2918 at Jones Hospital in Grass Valley, CA to Phil and Johanna Personeni. She attended the Kentucky Flat School, a one room grammar school on Newton Road. She then went on to complete here secondary education at Grass Valley High School and later graduated from Placer Junior College in Auburn, CA, receiving an AA degree in Library Science. Frances then married, raised three children, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She loved having a family, being a rancher and also, devoted 27 years of her life to develop the library program at Ready Springs School.
Frances’ interests varied from gardening to reading. Over the years she as an active participant in Community organizations – Pocahontas Lodge, the Road Runners Travel Club, the Placer Nevada Cattlewomen, and the Farm Bureau. Being an avid support of local agriculture, 4-H and FFA youth programs and the Nevada County Fair. Frances was also a co-founder of the Ready Springs Girls Club and until just recently volunteered as a story reader at the Kentucky Flat Preschool.
Frances had a ‘zest for life’ and a compassionate, hardworking spirit. She will be missed for her smile, laughter, generosity, integrity and honesty.
She is survived by her brother Phil Personeni JR; sister Linda Miller; children Jim Gates and Lily Marie-Mora; daughter-in-law Lorrie Beggs; six grandchildren, Jason Gates, Jeff Gates, Jacob Gates, Danelle Cooper, Katie Beggs, James Beggs; and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Phil and Johanna Personeni; her brother Andrew Personeni; and her son, Greg Gates.
