Earl Hamlin

Earl Vinton Hamlin passed away Aug. 21, 2014. He was 86. He died after several years of dealing with a damaged heart valve.

Born on Nov. 8, 1927, in Iowa to Vinton and Evelyn Hamlin, they moved to Los Angeles while Earl was still a baby.

He married Patricia O’Rourke on May 7, 1948, and they raised their family in the Los Angeles vicinity until 1971, when they moved to Grass Valley.

He was a very successful mechanic and was one of those people that could just fix anything. When he moved to Grass Valley, he built his family’s home, then went to work at the local Ford agency.

When his children, Katharine, Frank and Michael, were growing up, he was active with Indian Guides, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorers. The family also enjoyed collecting rocks from all over Southern California and turning them into jewelry, using the saws, grinders and polishers that Earl had made.

He also enjoyed fishing, hiking, silver work, woodworking and target shooting. His family always had plenty to keep them busy.

He is survived by his three children, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He will be missed by all of his descendents and many teens that over the years also called him and his wife mom and dad.

Dad, we love you and miss you.
