Obituary of Douglas Roy Bigley Sr.

Douglas Roy Bigley Sr. passed away at his ranch in Celestial Valley on April 19, 2019. He was 77.

Douglas was born in Buhl Idaho to John and Rae Bigley, he was one of 3 children. He grew up in Nevada City and Camptonville area, where he worked at Sierra Mountain Mills as a relief man and then foreman.

At the age of 40 he decided to become a full time rancher and business owner. He and his wife Marlys owned Bigley’s Market & Brass Rail Tavern for 40 years. He loved everything about the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish. He would set up a camp and pack his horses into many different states just to find that big buck! He will be missed by many!

He is survived by his brother John H Bigley III “Bud”; wife Marlys Bigley; son Douglas Bigley Jr; daughter Michelle (Damon) Dowling; grandchildren, Austin, Brooke, Erin, Joseph and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father John H Bigley Jr; mother Rachel L Bigley “Rae” and sister Lois R Bigley “Cherry.”

Per his request there will be no public service, a private family service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are in the care of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
