Obituary of Donald Dix Jr.

Donald Dix Jr. passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 after a 40 plus year fight with cancer.

He was born Feb. 16, 1943 to Donald Sr. and Madeline Dix in Los Angeles. A true self-made man, Don pulled himself up from the poverty of his childhood by honest hard work and unending determination.

In 1977 Don moved his family to Grass Valley when he purchased Knight’s Paint Store. Don generously and firmly mentored his employees and his professional customers alike. He sold the business to his son, Tres in 1993.

Don was active in several local clubs over the years, particularly as a founding member of the Gold Country Trails Council. He was very proud to have helped accomplish the building of the Pioneer Trail, something that will continue long after his passing. Don was, to put it mildly, an avid golfer. He was a member of The Ridge Country Club and leaves many friends behind at the course. He was also a big fan of Nevada Union Girls Basketball as well as sponsoring and coaching the Knight’s Paint City League basketball team.

Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ginny; his son Don 111 (Tres) both of Grass Valley; and his daughter Amy of Parker, CO. He is also survived by his two sisters, Barbara and Audrey; as well as five grandchildren.

According to his wishes, there will be no services. Everyone who knew him will not soon forget “Daddy Don.”
