Obituary of David Allen Bishop

David Bishop

David Allen Bishop went to be with the Lord on July 26, 2015 in Grass Valley. He was 88.

Dave was born Nov. 14, 1926 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to parents Leslie and Dorothy Bishop.

After graduation from Springfield Technical High School, Dave went immediately into the Navy at age 17 1/2, where he served in World War II as a diesel engine mechanic on a patrol craft in the South Pacific. Dave was discharged in California where his parents had moved.

There he met Kathleen Brickert, who would become his wife of 65 years. He graduated from UCLA in 1951 then moved to Oxnard, California, where he worked at Pt. Mugu Naval Air Missile Test Center as a management analyst.

Dave and Kathy moved to Grass Valley in 1982 where they built their retirement home. Dave loved his savior Jesus Christ, serving as deacon at Calvary Bible Church.

He loved to hike, camp, fish, and go boating, from water skiing, to canoeing and finally kayaking. He loved singing and was an avid barbershopper for more than 60 years.

Dave is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter Robin (Deane) Wilson; and son Bruce Bishop, as well as three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Frances Storey. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Donations may be sent to Hospice of the Foothills.
