Obituary of Catharine Davis Kunkel

Catharine Davis Kunkel passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 16, 2016 after a lengthy illness. She was 59.

Cathy was born on Dec. 10, 1956. She was the youngest of four children born to Clifton and Dorothy Davis and spent her childhood years within walking distance of the sand and surf of Redondo Beach, California. Upon her father’s retirement in 1972, the family relocated to Grass Valley where she completed high school at Nevada Union. One Oct. 13, 1986 Cathy married Ken Kunkel, and together they raised their daughter Melinda. For 25 years, Cathy was a loyal and dedicated employee of Country Cabinets and Broad Street Furnishings in Nevada City until illness forced her retirement in 2002. She was an avid reader, a movie buff, and a great cook.

She is survived by husband Ken; daughter Melinda of Grass Valley; sister Barbara Bilyeu of Templeton, CA; brother Rick Davis of Campbell, CA; aunt Mary Staeffler of Willimgton, DE; cousin Virginia Martin of Aurora, WV; nephew Paul Burkle of Paso Robles, CA; nieces, Hilary Mauch of Las Vegas, NV, and Kate Rogers of Morgan Hill, CA.

She is preceded by her parents and brother Tom Davis.

In accordance with her wishes, no services are planned. Donations can be made in her memory to Hospice of the Foothills or other charity of one’s choice.

Rest in peace dear Cathy and know how much we love and miss you.
