Obituary of Carolyn Ann Wilson

Carolyn Ann Wilson passed away July 24, 2017. She was 73.

A celebration of her life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on September 23, 2017 at Western Gateway Park in Penn Valley. For those who are planning on attending, please bring a salad or dessert to share. Please RSVP to:

Carolyn was born January 9, 1944 in Buena Park, CA to Jewell and Al Howard. She grew up there and graduated from Buena Park High School in 1961. She was married to Robert D. Martin from 1962 – 1976 and had two sons. She married Jan L. Wilson in 1982 and shared 35 wonderful years together. She loved working, starting at Knott’s Berry Farm as a teenager. She worked at The Office Restaurant in Grass Valley as a waitress, at the downtown Safeway in Grass Valley as a meat wrapper, and at Fidelity and Inter County Title in Grass Valley. For the last nine years, she worked in partnership with her husband as a real estate agent at Network Realty in Grass Valley. She also enjoyed working part time at the Daybreak Café in Penn Valley.

Carolyn never met anyone who she couldn’t carry on a conversation with. She loved people and especially loved the time she got to spend with her friends, family and grandkids. She used to bowl and line dance, and she loved to travel. She was an avid bargain shopper. For the last few years, she helped to put on the Penn Valley Rodeo Parade.

Anyone who knew Carolyn knew that she loved to talk. No one had to wonder what she was thinking. She was full of life and energy and was always an optimist. She loved her family and friends to pieces. She will be missed.

She is survived by her husband, Jan Wilson; sons Dennis Martin and Aron Martin; daughter-in-law Melissa Martin; brother Warren (Nancy) Bizzle and their kids, Brett (Vanthy) Bizzle and Amber (Scott) Macy; sister Sherry (Dan) Striepeke; brother Mark (Ines) Wilson. She also leaves her grandkids, Jaclyn Jewell (David) Sivewright, Jeremy (Nery) Madril, Sara (Christen) Gonzalez, Cody Martin, Lisa Marin, Faith (Austin) Green; and eight great-grandkids.

She is preceded in death by her mom and step-dad Jewell and Hallie Bizzle, father Al Howard, and brother Albert Howard.

In lieu of flowers, please send any contributions to Hospice of the Foothills.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
