Obituary of Carmelita J. Holleman

Carmelita Jean Holleman died on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at home, in Nevada City.
She was born on September 22, 1930 in the Jones Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley to William and Emma Rowe Southern, also natives of Grass Valley.
She graduated from Grass Valley High School in 1947 and the University of California, Berkeley in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. She worked in magazine publishing and radio copywriting in San Francisco and as an Aerospace Sciences Editor at the NACA High Speed Flight Station and the NASA Flight Research Center (now Armstrong) at Edwards, CA. she was also a free lance editor and writer.
She married Euclid C. Holleman in 1956 in the Grass Valley United Methodist Church. They lived in Lancaster, CA until 1975, when the retired from NASA and moved to Nevada City.
In retirement, she was a founding member of the Volunteer Action Center of Nevada County, the Literacy Council of Nevada County, the Women's Craft Guild and the Sierra Association of University Women and was also active in Friends of the Nevada County Libraries, the League of Women Voters of Western Nevada County and the Empire mine Park Association.
She is survived by her sister Arlene (Richard) Rice of Grass Valley, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in December 2009.
A family graveside service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
