Obituary of Alvin “Gene” Gomes Jr.

Alvin “Gene” Gomes Jr., lifelong Grass Valley/Nevada City resident, went to Heaven April 5, 2015. Gene loved the Lord.

Gene was born Dec. 5, 1942, to the late Al “Shorty” and Marilynn Gomes. His passing was due to complications from surgery.

He was a man of many talents and was a skilled craftsman. He built and operated the Star Lumber Saw Mill on the Ridge.

Gene was loving and generous, ready to help anyone. Family and friends were near and dear to his heart.

Gene is survived by his loving wife Molly; sister Charlene Gomes; children, Ron (Sandy), Mary Castro (Cisco), Gina Gomes, Danny (Karen); 14 grandchildren; six (soon to be seven) great-grandchildren; and childhood friend Lee Suponch.

Gene had a large extended family and network of friends that he treasured — not enough ink and paper to list all. However, we must include his loyal golden retrievers, Simon and Sally.

There will be a celebration of life from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 18 at Grass Valley Moose Lodge located at 15694 Allison Ranch Road.
