Mary Brockell

Mary G. Brockell passed away peacefully Sept. 3, 2012, at Golden Empire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grass Valley, Calif. She was 88.

She will be buried in Colfax, Calif., where she and husband Don made their home for many wonderful years.

Mary was born in San Rafael, Calif., Nov. 18, 1923, to parents Henry Finch and Irene Mains Gardner.

She was a proud US Marine during WWII. She later married Howard Patterson. They had four children.

Mary raised her four children by herself in Oakland, Calif., making many sacrifices along the way, while working full time and finishing college. She was an amazing woman and good mother and dedicated to her children. She will be dearly missed.

Mary’s college years provided her a rewarding 30-year career with the federal government. She retired in 1985 to Colfax Calif., where she and her husband Don enjoyed traveling, gardening, spending time with family and numerous church activities.

We are very grateful for the loving, excellent and professional care Mom received in her last years at Spring Hill Manor Rehabilitation & Convalescent Hospital and Golden Empire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mary is predeceased by her parents; her brother Robert Gardner; and her son Stanley Patterson.

She is survived by her children David Patterson, Howard Phillip Patterson and Carole Patterson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
