Margaret Brown

Margaret Brown, adored wife of Keith, and loving mother of Shannon and Sharlina Brown, bravely fought a battle she did not choose, and peacefully left us October 5, 2012 surrounded by family and friends.

Margaret was born in Naples, Italy on March 22, 1957 to Joseph Andrew Puleo and Norma Frances (Adams) Puleo. She lived in 3 countries, 4 states and 5 cities before settling down in her chosen home in Nevada County.

After graduating high school in Japan, Margaret studied Accounting at San Diego State University. Soon after starting a part-time job as a teaching assistant, she realized teaching was her true calling, and became an education major. She received her teaching credential from Chico State University.

Teaching was more than a profession for Margaret. It was her passion, her way of life, and what she gave to others. Beginning in 1982, she taught third and second grade at Pleasant Valley and Williams Ranch Elementary Schools. Determined not to let anything get in the way of her desire to teach, Margaret started this current school year, working until her doctors insisted she take a medical leave in August 2012; a true testament to her unrelenting love of teaching. Margaret was highly respected for her 30 year dedication to educating the children of Nevada County. Over the years she has impacted the lives of hundreds of children in the community, dedicating her time and care to enhancing the lives of others.

In addition to teaching, Margaret loved reading and crafting. She also had an affinity for traveling with her sister, Carina. Margaret was an avid Sudoku player, referring to herself as a “Sudokuholic”. She found enjoyment in gardening, especially tending to Morning Glories, her favorite flowers. Margaret delighted in focusing on the positive and finding the humor in all aspects of life, sharing her contagious laughter.

While teaching, traveling and friends brought her immense pleasure, family, especially her daughters, Shannon and Sharlina, was Margaret’s true joy and source of her most happy memories.

Margaret, one of six children, is survived by mother Norma Puleo; husband Keith Brown; daughter Shannon Brown; daughter Sharlina Brown; sisters JoAnne Micciulla (Sal Micciulla); Jeanne Cischke (Roy Cischke); Norma Jo Mathis (Mike Mathis); Carina Puleo; brother Andrew Puleo (Jeanne Puleo); several nieces and nephews and childhood friend Julie Miller Eiter.

A Celebration of Life in memory of Margaret Puleo Brown will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday October 21 at the Williams Ranch School Gymnasium, 14804 Pleasant Valley Road Penn Valley, CA 95946. Please join us in remembering the goodness that was Margaret.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Margaret Puleo Brown Memorial Fund for the continuing education of her daughters, Sharlina and Shannon Brown at http://www.gofundme.com/1bve20. Those wishing to send online condolences may visit http://margaret-brown.last-memories.com/.
