Laddie Louise Dunham Yamada

Laddie passed away at the Hospice of the Foothills in Grass Valley, Calif., on Oct. 24, 2013.

Laddie Dunham Yamada graduated from Oberlin College in 1942 with a bachelor of school music. Her life was always filled with music, from classical to the popular songs of her day. She loved to watch the old classic movies, too. She also loved to travel, the British Isles and Japan being her favorites.

Born in Manistee, Mich., on July 9, 1920, she spent her youth in Oak Park, Ill. Upon graduating from Oberlin College, Laddie taught elementary school music in Maryland, Japan and California. Her great love of music showed in her students’ music programs and the shows they put on. She always encouraged her students to excel.

Married to George Baccus until 1953, she had two sons, Noble and Gary. While teaching English and music in Japan, she met the love of her life, Yoshio Yamada, and married him in June 1954. Eventually they settled in South Pasadena, Calif., where she enjoyed the small-town life. She enjoyed her grandchildren, who lived nearby, and teaching Swimnastics at the YMCA. They eventually decided to move to Grass Valley in 1997. They loved the foothills of the Sierras and loved taking drives in the countryside.

Laddie leaves two sons, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Yoshio.
