Jewelle (Sandford) McClard passed away on July 18, 2014, in Nevada City, Calif., with family at her side. She was 81.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Jewelle’s life at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26 at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hollow Way, Nevada City.

She was born Alice Jewelle Sandford on July 28, 1932, to Gordon and Minnie Sandford in Tuttle, Okla. Jewelle’s family moved to Richmond, Calif., in 1942. She graduated from Richmond Union High School in 1951 and pursued a career as an executive secretary in both the private and public sectors.

She enjoyed going to San Francisco 49er and Giants games, gourmet cooking for family and friends, and attending Shakespeare plays in Ashland, Ore., with her husband, David. Jewelle and David were married in 1969 in Alameda, Calif. and moved to Nevada City in the late 1970s. She was widowed in 1985 when David died in a car accident.

She is survived by her sisters Sandy Keller and Hazel Sandford, as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David, brother John Sandford and sister Anita Duran.

Sociable by nature, Jewelle will be remembered for her charming personality, intelligence and wry humor.
