James Shultz

James Lee Shultz passed away suddenly on Oct. 23, 2014, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. He was 64.

A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 W. Main St., Grass Valley.

Jim was born in Salinas, Calif., on April 22, 1950, to Bill and Esther Shultz. The family moved to Grass Valley when Jim was 2 and he attended local schools. He graduated from Nevada Union High School in 1968. He attended Chico State and majored in geology.

He worked for a local engineering firm and later started Apex Engineering with Chris Day. He specialized in land use planning.

He took a year off from college to travel through Europe and Africa. He later explored Australia. He loved nature, a good joke, his chickens, as well as researching on the computer.

Jim was a kind and thoughtful person and a trusted friend to many.

He is survived by his beautiful daughter Emily; his parents, Bill and Esther; sister Margaret; niece Erin, and his great-nephews, Ty, Jared and Caleb Doherty.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Harriet Nichols, and some of his dearest friends.
