James Lane

James. H. Lane died July 13, 2013, at home. He was 85.

A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains at 246 S. Church St. in Grass Valley, Calif.

James was born April 3, 1928, to Samuel Everett and Martha (Newman) Lane in Muskogee, Okla. He obtained his master’s degree in social work from California State University, Sacramento and followed his passion of working with children in foster care and adoptions for the County of Sacramento.

Always a dreamer and a hard worker, he built, from the ground up, a houseboat, two homes in Chicago Park, Calif., and more small projects than we can remember! He had a life full of varied experiences. He was very curious about how things worked and why and was very interested in other people’s lives and eager to hear their stories. He loved to travel, but his interest was more in the people at his destination rather than the landmarks shown in the travel brochures!

He is survived by his wife, Valentyna; daughter, Martha (Greg) Glunt; grandson, Travis; son, Stas Matul; and sister, Mary B. Goens.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
