Hazel Hardin

Hazel Fae Hardin passed away on Oct. 8, 2014, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, just three and a half weeks shy of her 103rd birthday.

Hazel was born on Nov. 13, 1911, in Scotia, Calif. She grew up in Rio Dell and Scotia, in Humboldt County.

She had five siblings and her brothers and father worked as woodsmen at the Scotia Mill for many years, where she worked alongside with them.

Hazel remained active her entire life. She enjoyed square dancing and being outdoors, as well as traveling to her hometown in Humboldt County, where she has so many lifelong memories.

She had a great love for all animals, especially stray cats and kittens, which would always find her. She was a amazing caregiver to them.

She retired from Placer County Social Services in 1977.

Hazel’s spark and sweetest smile will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Hardin, in 1998; her parents; siblings; and her daughter, Joan Briody, in 2013.

Donations can be sent to Sequoia Humane Society, 6073 Loma Avenue, Eureka, CA, 95503, Attn: Nancy Flemming.
