Eugene “Richard” Chizek

Eugene “Richard” Chizek was born to Eugene and Mary

Ann Chizek in Oxnard, California. Richard passed

away June 13, in Nevada City, California at the age

of 57.

He attended St. Anthony Claret Catholic Elementary

School and Servite Junior High School in Anahiem

where he was active in sports and scouting. Richard

graduated from Anahiem High School in 1972. As a

teenager, he held after school and weekend jobs in the

restaurant industry which continued into his adulthood.

It was in his younger years that he learned to play guitar

and discovered photography; later excelling in both.

Richard became known for his freelance photography

and mastery of many musical instruments, to the delight

of those benefitting from those talents. Richard moved

between Southern California and Nevada County in the

‘70s and ‘80s, finally settling in Northern California in

1985. Richard worked at Hewlett Packard in Roseville

for 10 years and bought a house in Antelope, CA, where

he lived until relocating to Nevada City in 2011. He

worked for Grass Valley (Group) until his passing.

Richard did not marry or have any children, but he

was the greatest uncle to 10 nieces and nephews and was

an incredible sibling. He had recently traveled to Spain

with his sweetheart Terry Matthews where they became

engaged. A spiritual man, Richard was also the family

advisor and a resource to others. He was a gentleman in

all environments. He entertained us with guitar and song

and took photographs for friends and family that will be

cherished forever. An experienced traveler and outdoorsman,

he would share his pictures accompanied by

engaging tales of his adventures. Richard was a model

employee and citizen, and if he was your friend, you

were truly blessed. He attended Twin Cities Church in

Grass Valley and was active in Alcoholics Anonymous

and Celebrate Recovery. He also volunteered playing

guitar at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, several local

transitional care facilities, and at various work social

functions. His acts of service and kindness toward others

were indicative of his selfless, giving heart. It is a given

that, for all the loved ones, family, friends and coworkers,

Richard will be dearly missed yet never forgotten.
