Clyde Hornsby

Clyde William Hornsby passed away in Grass Valley on Sept. 23, 2013. He was 79.

Friends are welcome to attend a memorial service at 2 p.m. Tues., Oct. 22, 2013, at the Sierra Center for Positive Living, 119 Florence Ave, Grass Valley, CA 95945.

Clyde was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Oct.22, 1933, to Clyde Emmet and Mary Alice (Westerbeck) Hornsby. He was a 13-year resident of Nevada County. Clyde was the oldest of four children; he was in the Navy for nine years; he moved to California and owned homes in Fremont , Los Molinos and Lake Tahoe. He married Diana Marie Boone in San Francisco on Sept. 21, 1959. He loved to remodel his family homes while raising his two children.

Clyde was a hardworking individual who owned two barber shops and enjoyed being self-employed. He lost his wife Diana, after 38 years of marriage. He moved from Tahoe to Grass Valley and met his long-term companion, Holly Chesnut. With Holly he traveled the world and enjoyed his later years. He was progressive in his ideas and thoughts, always a conversationalist. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed wood working and carpentry.

He is survived by his sons, Scott Edward Hornsby of San Diego and Don Evan Hornsby of Kuna, Idaho; his longtime companion, Holly Chesnut of Grass Valley; and grandchildren Mitch and Rihana.
