NU lays off 15 teachers, all may come back

Layoff notices have been sent to 15 teachers within the Nevada Joint Union High School District.

The layoffs primarily affect those hired on temporary nine-month contracts to teach ninth-grade English and mathematics as part of the state’s class-size reduction program, said Superintendent Maggie Deetz. But Deetz said she hopes to bring some, if not all of the teachers back.

Non-teaching employees have yet to be notified if there will be layoffs, Deetz said. For the full story, see Thursday’s edition of The Union.
