NU frosh comes back to beat Inderkum

Nevada Union’s freshmen scored a 24-22 win over visiting Inderkum Thursday.

Nevada Union overcame a 22-8 third-quarter deficit with rushing touchdowns by Drew Hoskin and Broghan Jantz, and two-point conversions by Jantz and Kirby Hopper, who caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Jantz on NU’s first possession.

The Miners pinned the Tigers inside their own 5-yard line on the ensuing kickoff, but Inderkum still managed to drive inside NU’s 20. On a fourth-and-five, however, the Miners’ defense came up with a sack to force a turnover on downs.

Juan Espinoza led NU’s ground attack with 69 yards on 15 carries. Drew Hoskin totaled 64 yards on 11 touches and Jantz took seven handoffs for 21 yards.

Daniel Pettinatto led Nevada Union’s defense with nine tackles. Zack Vallejo contributed with eight, Chris Biertuempfel had six and Jantz had five.

The Miners host Franklin (Elk Grove) at 6 p.m. Thursday to open Delta Valley League play.
