An awards dinner to honor student essays about Nevada County women will be held March 13 at 6 p.m. at the Grass Valley Elks Lodge. The event marks the 15th Annual “Real Women” Creative Writing Competition sponsored by Northern Mines Business & Professional Women.

The essay competition is held in celebration of National Women’s History Month and is cosponsored by the Grass Valley Lady Elks and The Union, along with support from several other local businesses and individuals.

The competition was open to senior students from Western Nevada County public high schools, who were challenged to write about a living, local woman they admired. The winners and their subjects will attend the event, where the students will read their essays.

The event is open to the public; dinner is $10. Pre-paid reservations must be received by March 8. Phone Dee Eldridge at 273-0257 or send checks (made out to NMBPW) to 111 Bawden Ave., Grass Valley 95945.
