Norman Tonti (sponsored obituary)

Norman W. Tonti died Sept. 12, 2010 in Grass Valley. A celebration of his life will be at 11:00 a.m. at the Veteran’s Hall, 255 So. Auburn St., Grass Valley Sept. 17.

He was born in Fresno, CA on Jan. 3, 1926, and grew up in the Capitola and Santa Cruz area. He attended Santa Cruz High School and Cabrillo Jr. College. Norm was married to Jocelyn Souders in 1947 at Minden, NV. They raised five children: Richard Tonti (deceased), Dr. Robert Tonti of Texas; Susan Douglas of Grass Valley; Jeri Tonti of Texas; and Steven Tonti of Lake of the Pines. They retired to Grass Valley from Southern California and built a home in Lakewood. Norm was in the Merchant Marines from 1943-1946 and then the U.S. Army from 1946-1948.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002. Norm is survived by his four children and their spouses, nine grandsons, and several great-grandchildren, by his half-sister Leola Barnett and by his loving companion the last six years, Millie Catanesi.



Norm belonged to the Widowed Persons Assn. of CA enjoying pinochle with many friends, traveled with the Roadrunners group, enjoyed bowling, loved the desert and going there with this grandsons, the Sylvanies.

Norm will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.
