Erin Noel will be the featured artist at tonight’s Art Talk from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Julie Baker Fine Art Gallery.

The North San Juan environmental attorney became seriously interested in art when she studied the subject at Nevada Union High School.

Before becoming an attorney, Noel received an art degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz, with an emphasis in photography and painting.

Her abstracts, heavily influenced by her surroundings, display her passion for nature. Currently, her life and work are inspired by her new found love of kayaking in this area’s less rigorous rivers and by her longtime love of hiking in California’s wild places.

Noel has worked in several media, from painted wood carvings and bas-relief metalwork to pen and watercolor on paper.

Tonight’s talk will address the relationship of her nonrepresentational abstract work to the landscape that shapes its form and inspires her.

She will also explore how art can help impact community decisions about the land.

The Art Talk is $5.

The gallery is at 120 N. Auburn St., Suite A, Grass Valley.

Since seating is limited, call for reservations at 273-0910.
