NID may buy small power plant

The Nevada Irrigation District may purchase a small, private power plant at Combie Reservoir at Nevada County’s southern.

General Manager Ron Nelson said this morning the plant could become NID’s for cheap and the owners could dodge a contract default if the district agrees to terms currently on the table. The deal will come back to committee and board members again next month.

Water and Hydroelectric Operations Committee members Scott Miller and George Leipzig also heard this morning that PG&E’s Krause II canal below the Rollins Reservoir is shifting due to sliding of the steep hillside it sits on above the Bear River.

The canal is part of the vast water and hydroelectric system NID shares with PG&E. Crews were dispatched to the scene to see how it can be fixed before a break occurs.
