Nice job, Nevada Union High School

Thank you administrators, staff and parent volunteers at Nevada Union High School for an excellent job this year!

As a parent of an incoming sophomore, I witnessed last year’s freshman day fiasco when students spent hours in line in the hot sun for locker assignments and class schedules. When my son was unable to make it on the designated day this year, I had to fill in and was dreading it.

Much to my surprise, I was able to get a shared locker in a “prime” location, pick up the class schedule and the corresponding textbooks… all within 45 minutes! This was not special treatment because I was an adult among students; I saw these young people making their way through with the same efficiency.

I also was faced with the need to make a class schedule change, which in the past with my two older NU grads, was not an easy thing to accomplish. On this particular day, a counselor was readily available, the change request form completed on the spot, and later that evening I received a phone call at home confirming that the change had been completed in the scheduling system along with an invitation for my son or me to come by the office to pick up a copy of the new schedule at our earliest convenience.

Thank you, NU, for improving your processes. After The Union’s article last year, you deserve a positive follow-up story or at least this recognition in the kudos section.
