‘Women, Math and Fun’ topic of Business and Professional Women of Nevada County meeting

Mona Matthias, who enjoyed a 34-year career as a teacher and internationally known expert in teaching math, will speak about “Women, Math and Fun!” at the monthly dinner meeting of Business and Professional Women of Nevada County on Wednesday at Summer Thyme’s Bakery and Deli, 213 Colfax Ave. in Grass Valley. Members of the public are invited.

Through a variety of table-top activities including creating toothpick puzzles, tangrams and origami, Matthias will encourage attendees to think differently about their attitudes about math, so that positive, rather than negative, messages about mathematics can be transmitted to the next generation, especially girls.

Social and networking begins at 5:30 p.m.; dinner at 6 p.m. The cost for the event is $21 per person or $5 for the program only. Pre-paid reservations are required for members and guests by Sunday. Visit http://www.bpwnevadacounty.org for more information or to make a reservation.
