‘Wicked women’ coming to Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley

Grass Valley author Chris Enss will talk about her newest book, “Mochi’s War: The Tragedy of Sand Creek,” at a gathering for book lovers at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley.

The Old West historian also will talk about one of her most popular topics: the lady gamblers, outlaws and other “wicked women” of the period. Enss will sign books and offer volumes for sale.

A book exchange also will be held.

This free event is hosted by enthusiastic readers at Peace, and everyone who loves to read is welcome. If you are inviting your book club, please bring a dessert to share.

Enss has published 47 books based on her extensive research about the Old West. More than a writer, Enss brings her characters alive with humor and even costume. She’s also a television contributor (“Legends and Lies”), screenwriter and comedienne.

“Mochi’s War” is Enss’ latest work, released in June. It looks at a massacre of Cheyenne people by the Colorado Territory militia in 1864, and its aftermath.

The prolific Enss published “Wicked Women: Notorious, Mischievous, and Wayward Ladies from the Old West” in January. Both books, and others by Enss, are available in local stores and at the Aug. 7 event.
