Towntalk: Calling all barbecue teams

Join the fun! United Way of Nevada County is combining two events, the annual “BBQ Battle” and the “Foreign Car Show” into one big event — the “Foreign Car Show & BBQ Battle.”

Entry forms are now available for teams to compete and share their grilling expertise with the public. So, if you have a recipe to share and enjoy grilling, this is the event for you.

Past teams have had creative names, such as “The She Devils,” “Uptown Barber-Q-ers” and “Bam Dazy BBQ.”

Those not competing are encouraged to sponsor a team or the event.

The barbecue teams will be competing for the title of “Best Griller in Nevada County” and cash prizes.

There will be two judging categories; one decided by the populace and the other will be decided by a small group of “Critic’s Choice” judges.

There will also be an award given out to the team with the most spirit.

There are gift certificates and sponsorships available to help barbecue teams offset the costs.

This year’s BBQ Battle will be August 16 at Western Gateway Park in Penn Valley. All proceeds from this event will go into United Way of Nevada County’s Community Impact Fund.
