SunSmile Farms open for “u-pick” peaches

Nevada County farmer George Loftus has 250 peach trees loaded with fruit that’s getting ripe — and he’s open on weekends for pick-your-own peaches and blackberries.

“We’re open and we’re still alive,” said Loftus, who continues to face water supply issues with the Nevada Irrigation District.

The farm stand is open on Saturdays and Sundays through the season. Find SunSmile Farms at 10113 West Drive, Grass Valley (off Rough and Ready Highway; about two miles west of town, turn left on West Drive and go to the end of the road through the gate).
