‘Standing Army’ doc examines network of U.S. military bases

The Peace and Justice Center of Nevada County will be screening the 2010 documentary “Standing Army” at 7 p.m. Friday at the Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains. The film provides a look into the global network of U.S. military bases, the reasoning behind their existence and the impact they have on local populations.

There are reportedly 716 bases currently located throughout 38 countries with more than 250,000 troops, with a U.S. presence in 110 countries. The documentary is part of The Peace and Justice Center’s Fourth Friday Film series. A discussion will follow the film. Admission cost is by donation, refreshments and popcorn will be available. The Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains is located at 246 South Church St. in Grass Valley.
