Soroptimists award 10 mini grants

Soroptimist International of the Sierra Foothills recently awarded "mini grants" totaling $7,000 to 10 nonprofit organizations and businesses. Above, representatives of each organization were on hand to accept their grants.

Soroptimist International of the Sierra Foothills recently awarded 10 of Nevada County’s nonprofit organizations and businesses monetary awards for their service to the community. The sum of $7,000 was gifted in “mini-grants” to be shared among the following: Junior Achievement, Amanda Connell of River Valley Bank (financial literacy classes); NU Adult Education, Julie Coffin (courses at Wayne Brown Facility); Insight Imaging, Inc., Dr. Melissa Agnes (free mammograms); Sierra Harvest, Aimee Retzler (Food Love Project); Project Linus, Susan Piper (quilts and blankets for children in hospitals); One Source, Donna Raibley (volunteer caregiver rraining program); Child Advocates of Nevada County, Nikki Robertson and Laura Harter (Comfort Cases); Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County, Lindy Beatie (background checks); KARE Crisis Nursery, Lynn Woerner (more open hours); and Interfaith Food Ministries, Kathy Mollet (crock pots and classes).

Soroptimist International of the Sierra Foothills is a volunteer organization of women united to promote the betterment of lives of women and children in the community and throughout the world.
