Prescription drug “Take Back Day”

Community members will be able to safely dispose of their unused prescription drugs today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of South Auburn and Neal streets in Grass Valley.

According to the Coalition for a Drug Free Nevada County, seven of 10 of the most commonly abused drugs by teenagers are prescription medications, which are often taken from medicine cabinets at home or from friends or family members. All prescription drugs should be in a secure place, monitored and properly disposed of when no longer needed. Medications disposed of down the toilet or in the trash end up in our water supplies and damage our environment. In addition to today’s “Take Back Day” event, permanent, safe disposal bins can be found at the Kmart pharmacy 111 W. McKnight Way in Grass Valley and at Save Mart Pharmacy, 12054 Nevada City Hwy. in Grass Valley. For more information, contact the Coalition for a Drug Free Nevada County at 530-273-7956.
