Nevada County book club considers building the new American economy

If we understand the forces that affect the American economy, can we better consider the needs of all who stand within its shadows? Can we create a more sustainable America? These are questions that will be posed at the next meeting of the Spiritual Book Club of the Baha’is of Nevada County, set for 7 p.m. on July 24 at the Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada City. The group will be discussing the book, “Building the New American Economy,” by renowned author Jeffrey Sachs. The book explores issues that have captivated the nation, such as infrastructure, energy policy, national debt, income inequality and the role and size of government. In his book, Sachs, an architect of much of the contemporary thought about sustainable development, is said to rise above pessimism to discuss policies that help society and individuals move beyond partisanship toward real solutions. The public is invited to participate free of charge. Light refreshments will be served. The library is located at 980 Helling Way, Nevada City. For more information, call 530-264-7392.
