Nevada City man jailed for alleged drug sales

A Nevada City man was taken from his apartment to a county jail on Saturday for drug related charges after being found inside an apartment building by a police officer who was performing a welfare check.

Sgt. Joe Matteoni said a police officer from the Grass Valley Police Department discovered the 38-year-old Vincent James Delavega inside a building on the 300 block of Dorsey Drive, when the officer responded to a welfare request for another resident on the property.

“Upon his arrival, he heard some yelling coming from inside the apartment,” said Matteoni. “He made contact with the residents, and Mr. Delavega came out.”

According to county court records, Delavega was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance in March. A bench warrant was then issued after Delavega failed to appear in court for a hearing on Sept. 21.

After seizing Delavega’s backpack, the officer reportedly found a scale, marijuana and methamphetamine. He also had a black imitation firearm with its safety tips removed which resembles a .45-caliber handgun, Matteoni said.

Delavaga was taken into custody on three counts of possession of a controlled substance for sale.
