Man killed in ATV wreck off Rincon Way

A man working on a ranch in South County was killed when his ATV overturned on him Saturday.

At approximately 11:15 a.m. Saturday, the man — who has been identified as Elder Guerra, 50 — was operating a Polaris 330 ATV on a private ranch on Rincon Way in the unincorporated county area.

Guerra was driving down a steep roadway in a southerly direction at an unknown speed, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Greg Tassone. For unknown reasons, he made an unsafe turning movement causing the ATV to overturn. Guerra was ejected off onto the ground and the ATV overturned on top of him, causing fatal injuries.

When others on the ranch realized he was missing, they began searching the property. Guerra was located and emergency personnel responded to the scene. However, he was declared dead at the scene before being transported, Tassone said.
