Grass Valley resident celebrates 100th birthday

Hazel Hopkins
Submitted by Joan Williams |

Hazel Hopkins of Grass Valley will celebrate her 100th birthday today. Born in 1913, Hopkins was born and raised in Wells, Nevada. She was one of five sisters, of which only two remain. Hopkins’ husband, Leonard, passed away in 2008. In good health, Hopkins plays Pinocle every Tuesday with friends and neighbors near her home at the Ponderosa Pines Mobile Home Park. Hopkins attributes her longevity to having children, grandchildren and great granchildren nearby — and consuming meat, potatoes, gravy and two cups of coffee every day.
