Grass Valley Police Officer’s Association to brighten Christmas for kids

The Grass Valley Police Officer’s Association is preparing for the upcoming season and its 22nd annual Caring and Sharing program.

The first Caring and Sharing program began in 1991. The program is designed to help less fortunate children in our community while building positive relationships between law enforcement, children and their families. Children are referred to the program by community members, as well as other public service agencies.

Citizens are invited to visit the Grass Valley Police Department Lobby at 129 S. Auburn St. to take a tag from the Wishing Tree, which will be up as of Thursday. The tags have a child’s name, gender, age and wish list item.

Purchased items should be taken to the police department, unwrapped and unlabeled, by Dec. 3.

Individuals who desire to make a monetary donation may do so by making checks payable to the Grass Valley Police Officers Association (please note on the check “Caring and Sharing”).

The children then will spend a morning at Grass Valley K-Mart on Dec. 7, shopping with Grass Valley Police officers or police department volunteers before receiving breakfast and meeting Santa Claus, who will give them the gift.

For more information, contact Grass Valley Police Officer’s Association President Corporal Brian Hooper at 530-477-4600.
