Gold Country Lions’ reading contest

“A Celebration for Reading Ice Cream Party” will kick off a month-long reading contest for the 600 students at Lyman Gilmore Middle School. The ice cream party for the students and staff on February 5 is sponsored by Gold Country Lions and SPD markets to promote the value and fun of reading.

Students have been tested to establish their reading levels, and all school library books have been rated to determine reading levels. All students are eligible to participate in the contest and may read as many books of their choice at their reading level or above. When a book is finished, the student will take a comprehension quiz — 80 percent or better is considered “passing.” Every time a student earns a “pass,” he or she will add a ticket for a drawing from each grade level.

Two winning tickets will be drawn for each grade, fifth through eighth. The eight winners will receive one of the new Amazon Fire 7” tablets provided by Gold Country Lions Club of Grass Valley.
