Going off grid with solar 101

California Solar Electric Company is offering a two-day workshop on planning and implementing an off grid residential solar systems on Oct. 15 and 16 at their Grass Valley facility located at 149 Main St. Workshop hours with Lars Ortegren are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. Registration is $150 and space is limited. Participants may pre-register and save a spot with a $50 deposit by calling 530-274-3671.

The “Off-Grid Workshop” provides an introduction to system design and maintenance. Attendees will leave with a solid understanding of the factors of design, as well as ongoing maintenance of off grid power stations.

Key topics include calculating your load; battery selection; solar panel selection; charge controller selection; inverter selection; solar mounting options; inverter and battery installation. A one hour break will be provided to get lunch on Saturday, which is not included in class fee. A $75 discount given to class participants on any California Solar equipment purchase within 90 days of class date.
