Fundraiser for young organ transplant candidate

A barbecue fundraiser for Ethan Roth will be on Oct. 1 at the Roth Estate. The event will help pay for the family's lodging while Roth, who has cystic fibrosis, undergoes two organ transplants.

An Oct. 1 barbecue picnic and silent auction at the Roth Estate will help raise funds for Ethan Roth, a 13-year-old Grass Valley resident who is awaiting a liver and pancreas transplant due to complications from cystic fibrosis. During Roth’s extensive medical treatment, the family will be forced to pay for their own lodging in San Francisco. Because he has had MRSA, a type of staph bacteria that is resistant to several antibiotics, Roth is not a candidate for housing with other patients. Gates will open at 2 p.m. on Oct. 1 at the Roth Estate, with a barbecue dinner at 4 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a potluck side dish, chairs and blankets. Hot dogs, hamburgers, water and soda will be provided. The musical group The Bleeping Bleeps, will be providing live music. Tickets are $35 for adults or $12 for children ages 6 through 16. Those under the age of five are free. Tickets are available for purchase at Prospector’s Nursery in Nevada City and What’s Up Coffee in Grass Valley. For more information, call 530-263-7274 or 415-497-4614. More information is also available on Facebook under “Ethan Roth Fundraiser.”
