Fundraiser for volunteer efforts of Nevada City woman

Nevada Union graduate of 2008 Emily Lohmeyer is hosting a celebration and fundraiser in support of her upcoming two-year volunteer service in Managua, Nicaragua, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Banner Grange Hall, 12629 McCourtney Road, Grass Valley.

Through Jesuit Volunteer Corps and Proyect Generando Vida, she will be working with local staff on a microfinance project to empower women living in El Barrio El Recreo, Managua.

The event will include presentations about her travels and work in Kenya and past year with The Advocates for Human Rights in Minneapolis. Also included will be live music, a silent auction, presentation, food and drinks.
