Free adult education courses offered in Nevada County

Submitted to The Union

For the first time, Nevada Union Adult Education is offering a series of free workshops ranging from basic car maintenance to improvisation acting. A full day of community-enrichment courses is scheduled for April 30. All classes are free, and there’s only one requirement: you must be an adult over 18.

The line-up includes 9 to 10 a.m., Basic Car Maintenance; 10 to 11 a.m., Microsoft Word Basics; 11 a.m. to noon, “Behind the Scenes with a Hollywood Camera Operator;” 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., American Sign Language Awareness; 1 to 2 p.m., Using Google Docs; and 2 to 3 p.m., “Introduction to Improvisational Acting.”

The courses will be led by experts in each field. For example, the Basic Car Maintenance class will be taught by Grant Weller, a master mechanic for Mercedes Benz. Jake Ingraham, a freelance cameraman for ABC and NBC, will instruct the “Behind the Scenes” videography and film course. Local star Danny McCammon will be helping participants “break a leg” during the improvisational acting session.

Other workshops are scheduled in May and June, and there are additions to the schedule almost weekly. Future offerings include “How to Write a Killer Resume,” “Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release,” “Choosing the Perfect Pair of Eyeglasses,” “Web Site Design,” “Developing an Eye for Photography,” “Self-defense,” “ASL Awareness” and “Taking the Fear out of Triathlons.”
