Forum to discuss low-energy food preservation

Learn the low-energy food preservation methods that our great grandparents used to preserve and save foods at the Small Farm and Garden Forum at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Rough and Ready Grange. Guest speaker Shan Kendall, Nevada County nutrition and cooking teacher, will discuss food preservation techniques from the farm and garden without canning, refrigerating or freezing. Kendall will discuss ways to process excess produce, fruit, meat and dairy, while maintaining or increasing the nutrition of the foods. The evening’s presentation will include dehydration, culturing dairy, meat curing, pickling, lacto fermented beverages and more.

The Rough and Ready Highway next to the new fire station at 14550 Rough and Ready Highway. Park in back. Admission is free.
