Farewell party for Cindy Maple

A farewell party for Cindy Maple, retiring executive director of Hospitality House, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Holiday Inn Express, 421 Bank St. in Grass Valley. Maple is a co-founder of the homeless shelter and has been its director since 2006. She is responsible for creating the shelter’s many successful programs, including a housing program that since 2013 has assisted almost 350 formerly homeless Nevada County residents into permanent homes of their own. This evening is an opportunity to say goodbye and good luck to a “community hero.” Maple is The Union’s 2016 Citizen of the Year. She will be retiring on June 17 and leaving the area soon after.
